The Top 5 Body Moisturisers for Summer*

*According to me…

I have such a love/hate relationship with body products. I love using them, but I hate how they feel on my skin. I know, I know, it doesn’t make much sense, but hear me out.

I hate the feeling of my skin being dry and uncomfortable, especially when I’m out of the shower and it feels chalky/papery/I don’t even know how to describe it. Just uncomfortable. But equally, I hate feeling slimy and sticky (suncream is my nemesis – a necessary evil). Over the years I’ve tested a fair few body moisturisers because of this, and found a few gems among the masses.

It can be a struggle to find the right balance of fragrance, texture and results, but here are my top 5 tried and tested results (in no particular order):

The Body Shop Grapefruit Body Yoghurt

The strong grapefruit fragrance may not be for everyone, but this is hands down the perfect summer body lotion for me. The scent is so refreshing that it’s a treat every time I use it.

As the name suggests, it’s more of a yoghurt – it’s not as thick as a body cream/lotion/butter/insert any other name that makes you think of a thicker body lotion here. It’s a thin, hydrating consistency that absorbs super quickly while yielding pretty decent results. The last thing I want in the heat is to feel like I have a layer of thick cream slathered all over me, so this is ideal in keeping my skin moisturised (especially after getting some sun) without making me feel like I can’t sit down on anything without leaving a greasy silhouette.

The Body Shop as a brand are great. I love their values and that their products are cruelty free so I’m always happy to give them my money, especially as the quality is their stuff is always great.

The Body Shop Almond Milk Body Yoghurt

I debated whether to include this one considering it’s another TBS body yoghurt, but it really deserves a spot on the list too.

This scent isn’t one I would have opted for, but after I got it as a gift I’m kicking myself for not picking this up long before I received it. If you’re not that much into fruity or sweet scents (my personal go-to), then this may be a more suitable option. The smell is just gorgeous, I can’t describe it but I find it really soothing. It’s definitely one to bring away with you as it has ore of a ‘holiday’ vibe to it.

As with the grapefruit yoghurt, the texture is light and absorbs quickly. It feels so silky when I use it that I wouldn’t be surprised it I managed to get through a whole tub at a time… but a little goes a long way with these so I can enjoy using them for a good few weeks before I have to reach for the next.

Bomb Cosmetics ‘Pineapple Perfect’

Don’t be misled by the image. At first I thought to myself: ‘I thought I ordered Pineapple Perfect’ but when I had 2 tubs called ‘Pineapple Prefect’ I thought I had completely misread it. But no, on the site they are called Pineapple Perfect but there clearly must have been a typo in a batch of them.

Anyway, I won’t get hung up on such a minor detail when it’s such a gorgeous product.

The texture of this is far thicker than the yoghurts, but it just takes a bit of a massage in. And it’s worth it. While still suited for summer, I’d say these would be better for the cooler summer days/evenings because of leaning towards the thicker side. They leave my skin feeling so supple and really last well.

The smell is one of my all time favourites in a product. It’s very sweet and pineapple-y, and being someone who loves fruity scents it’s ideal for me. It’s also got pretty little sparkly flakes in it, which look really lovely when they hit the sun. You can’t feel them at all, you can only see them. They’re a really nice little touch to such a gorgeous product.

Brazillian Bum Bum Cream

Where do I start. Do I really need to give much detail on this? Chances are you’ll have already seen it, or tried it yourself, but its earned a spot in my list.

For those who haven’t tried this: don’t waste any more time. I bought a big tub just to bump up my basket for free shipping (yes, I’m one of those suckers), but didn’t get round to using it for a few months while I was using up some others that had already been opened. I also had a little sample packet and one evening I thought I’ll give that a try and see what I think. Let’s just say the big tub was opened VERY quickly after that.

This is another one that just ticks the most important boxes; smell, texture and results. The moment I opened it I was blown away by the scent. It’s a tropical smell that’s pretty unique and just smells dreamy.

The texture is ideal too. It’s not too thick or gloopy, and it absorbs nice and quickly without feeling like you’re covered in Vaseline. My skin feels really soft and hydrated after using this, and it’s one of my favourite products altogether.

I will admit, I thought this was just going to be one of those over-hyped products, but for me it definitely warrants the popularity.

Soap and Glory The Righteous Body Butter

Last but definitely not least.

This is one I’ve been using for a number of years now. After picking it up in Boots a decade ago, it’s held a solid spot in my rotation since.

One thing that I love about it is that you can get the normal version, or a light version. I opt for the light version (because see above my dislike of goo).

This is another one that has a really unique scent that I just adore. It’s a sweet, fruity (and possibly overpowering to some) smell that I can’t quite place what it’s made up of, but it has quite the impact. I find that the smell of this one also lasts pretty well.

Texture-wise, I’ve used the normal and the light version, and found the light version to be my favourite. Also, it comes in a pump bottle as opposed to a tub which is always a plus for me. The results are pretty good, my skin feels really moisturised and supple. It’s definitely one I’d recommend for summer for the smell alone.

I’m very aware that these will not be for everyone, as a lot of people don’t like fragrance – especially if it’s quite strong – but for me they work perfectly and I’m more than ok with nicely-fragranced body products.
